Darkside of the Con II Band Interview: Psyche Corporation - Vf Interview Archives

Interview by Morticia

Interview “mini-view” March, 2018.

When did Psyche Corporation form? What is the origin behind the band name?

Officially, we formed in 2006, when I released my first album, Architect of Dreams, and had our first live performance under that name (myself on vocals, with Angelique and Maritza as dancers) in 2007. Angelique and Martiza retired/moved shortly after that so we’ve had other dancers perform in the band, as well as a collection of live musicians depending on availability and logistics. The band is named after a dream manufacture group from a future where neural implants allow people to download dreams from the Internet.

How many band members are there and what are their stances in the band?

I’m the only consistent band member. I (Psyche Chimère) sing the vocals and produce all the backing instrumental music. Other band members kind of pop in and out as their respective schedules allow. Lately, I’ve had shows featuring gothic belly dancer Ghost Siren, or veteran dancer Arydaea (who’s been dancing for Psyche Corp. since 2009). I’ve also been joined at times by cellist Luna Skye and guitarist Robare Pruyn (of The Rose West).

What are band practices like? Do you have a set time each week?

Back in 2005-2006 I had band practices (we weren’t necessarily called Psyche Corp. during this whole time), but it ended up not working very well with people’s schedules, so now we just have people remotely learn the tracks they are playing on and if they are new to working with me they send me some sample video recordings of themselves playing live to my track and I give them in depth feedback. We repeat this leading up to whatever show it is, until they feel ready. Then we might have a dress rehearsal all together if everyone shows up to the venue early enough and there’s an opportunity for it.

What has been your biggest challenge as a band?

Adapting to the Earth technology of the 21st century. The truth is, we’re not only named after the Psyche Corporation dream manufacture company from the future, in fact we’re also reps from the subliminal marketing division of the PR department, here to capture market-share starting way into the past.

If you could play at any venue anywhere, where would it be?

Bruce Sterling’s birthday party. I love his cyberpunk fiction.

Do you have a Motto for the band? Or a superstition?

"Come for the Power,

Come for the Pain,

Come for the Glory,

Come for the Game.”
