Darkide of The Con II band interview: Abbey Death - VF Interview Archives

Interview by Morticia

Interview “mini-view” March, 2018.

When did Abbey Death form? What is the origin behind the band name?

A version of Abbey Death formed in 2013, however we played under our solo project's Valerie Gentile & Abbey Nex . After a few confusing shows we decided to created a project and start writing our songs together; calling the project Abbey Death. The name Abbey Death originated from AbbeyNex's stage name which means Abbey Death. Abbey originates from Abbey's real last name. Abbey (Family name) Nex (Latin for Death)

How many band members are there and what are their stances in the band?

Valerie Abbey: There are 2 band members in Abbey Death. Valerie Abbey (Gentile) and AbbeyNex. We each play guitar, keyboards and sing.

Abbey Nex: We would like to have a live drummer eventually. Drummer of Aesthetic Perfection, Tim Van Horn, has played few shows with us in the past and they were great.

What are band practices like? Do you have a set time each week?

We light a lot of incense and set a vibe to help us focus on just playing our songs. It's very easy to become distracted by the outside world and technology. We'll practice in our basement studio in Brooklyn, which has its pros and cons, but we'll also lug our gear to Jersey City to JC Studios to practice with our live sound engineer, Sam. We try to practice everyday when we have a show coming up. We'll run the set twice unless a song needs more work.

What has been your biggest challenge as a band?

Valerie Abbey: Writing an album and financing an album.

Abbey Nex: The hardest part is finding the time to write new music.

If you guys could play at any venue anywhere, where would it be?

Valerie Abbey: It would be a dream come true if we could bring Abbey Death to Mera Luna's main stage in Hildesheim, Germany.

Abbey Nex: I'd like to play a huge amphitheater on top of a mountain for kicks.

Do you have a Motto for the band? Or a superstition?

Valerie Abbey: 'There's no ego. We go!' -Wim Hof. And we try not to be seen in our stage outfits before the show.

Abbey Nex: Play every show as if it's your last. I also have the ritual checklist of things to do before we hit the stage.
