A Dj A Day: DJ Virtigo - (Republished) Interview

Updated: Jun 17, 2020

Interview was produced by Morticia Batz in 2018 or 2019 can not remember. Interview is in it's original form.

Is there a meaning behind your Dj name?

Yes, in the 90s ( lol) you had to battle a member of a party crew if you wanted to be in it. I went for the main person ( as an Aries would). I won the dance battle and he gave me the name Vertigo. I didnt want people to think I got it from a dance club that came about later so I purposely changed the spelling to Virtigo.

How long have you been spinning?

I have been collecting records since high school but spinning since 2007.

Do you like Mermaids? Or Dragons?

Quetzacoatl def dragons.

Has anyone ever come up to you asking you to play a song, and thrown up on you or near you? This is my favorite question to ask, for selfish reasons.

Haha lol no not yet

Morticia: I'll make it happen then. lol jk jk

Do you have a go-to set list? What's the first three on it?

No go to set list I try to for the most part reflect the audience I am djn for. Although I do try to purposely change it up.

So we know you DJ, but tell us what other things you enjoy? Anything you're passionate about?

I am a bit of a history nerd and I have to say cultural anthropology has changed my life. I dig anything related to cultures , history, religion and paganism.

When are your next Dj gigs?

My B Day party March 31st Nina Belief and Xostume will be performing and Dj Drayk ( a great Dj by the way) will be guest Djn.

Morticia: I saw Xostume on perform before they do a great performance!

Tell us about the clubs you run/have ran?

The Wreck Hall, The Rubix Room ( New Wave), Retrospect ( New Wave), On A Sunday Afternoon ( Oldies, Funk, Eastside Sound). Was a resident Dj at Berlin ( Industrial / Goth) .prob few other but cant remember right now

Tell us about New Wave cholas?!

lol gag. I'm a New Wave Chola!

Morticia: Of course you are hehe

People want to know; what do you love about djing? Is it being able to get people to dance?

I love exposing people to new or uncommon bands. The classics are great but urr my lurdd please change it up.

I def love make people dance, you can totally tell when a track hits a special spot for someone sometimes.

You have many different clothing styles, can you tell us about some of them?

I am heavily influenced style wise by Blitz Kids, New Romantics, and yes Cholas, I love to throw clothing from other cultures that I have respect for and think it fierce. ( exampe) a Hijab.

What is something you are extremely passionate about? Or do you have anything you feel so strongly about you would fight for it?

I am extremely passionate about music that aside. I consider myself to be an egalitarian/ humanist but again not an extremist. Im all for equality and LGBTQ rights.

Last question, well sort of. Leave us with a quote?

A quote for Djs or people interested in Djn: If you're not doing it for the love of the music. Then your probably doing it for the wrong reasons. ( unless your paying bills etc) lol.
