Interview by Morticia
(Interview is from March or April 2018)
Staff Notes: Dj Jossie Ayame is now living in Belgium)
Is there a meaning behind your Dj name?
It's just the same as my modeling name so that I keep everything under one name. I chose Jossie Ayame because Jossie is short for my real name, and I read the name Ayame somewhere and thought it was cool. I was 17 when I chose it, so don't judge me! 😂
Where do you live? Have you always lived there? How's the music scenes over there?
I live in Pretoria, South Africa but I grew up in the UK. I am originally from here though - I was born in SA, moved to the UK when I was 5, and back to SA when I was 12. The goth and alternative scene is very small here and hardly any places play the kind of music we like. We have a few events here and there though that keep the scene alive. Metal is much more popular than Goth though.
How long have you been spinning?
Hmmm, I think it's been about 4 years now? It hasn't been very long actually but I have always been passionate about music. I was a radio DJ before becoming a DJ at events.
Do you like Dragons or Mermaids?
Do you have a go-to set list? What's the first three on it?
Not track by track, but I have a few songs that I always play!
These are always in my set:
Sisters of Mercy - This Corrosion
Fields of the Nephilim - Moonchild
The March Violets - Snake Dance
So you make jewelry? What kind?
I specialise in elegant beaded chokers and circlets in a Gothic fantasy style!
Morticia:Ooohh can we see?!
Here are two of DJ Jossie Ayame's favourite designs she has done to date and links to her art
So you like traveling? Where was your last travel to, did you enjoy it?
I love traveling but sadly it's very expensive to travel internationally from South Africa, so I can't travel as much as I'd like. My last trip was to Paris, Venice and Rome for my honeymoon! It was amazing and I'd love to go back, especially to Paris!
What kind of music do you spin?
Mostly old school Goth, but I tend to check out the crowd and throw in some darkwave and industrial and see if they prefer that over Goth that night. If the response is better then I focus on that instead, but old school Goth is my favourite!
People want to know; what do you love about djing? Is it being able to get people to dance? Or watching your superhuman Dj skills? Or did you make a deal with a wizard?
I started DJing because no one ever played the songs I want to dance to! So now I can play whatever I want and dance my heart out. And it makes me so happy to see that others enjoy songs that I love.
Morticia: That's inspiring, that you were inspired to Dj because no one played the music you wanted to hear.
Last question; we'll sort of. Leave us with a quote:
Life's too short to be boring!
Morticia: I know we didn't talk about your modeling in the interview. But I just felt compelled to share a few of DJ Jossie Ayame's modeling photos
