A Deejay A Day: Dj Eser (Republished)

(This interview was originally published in April 2018, and is published in it's original form)

Is there a meaning behind your Dj name? Eser was my graffiti name, I was a Tagger in the 80’s-Early 90’s, It was actually ‘Esser’ but they spelled it wrong on the first flyer I was on, They put only one ‘S’ So I decided to keep it that way

How long have you been spinning? 25 Years Do you like goblins or gremlins? Ha! Gremlins rule!! A lot of people love animals. Do you have any? Of course! 2 cats, I love it when they knead AKA make bread, lol Do you have a go-to set list? What's the first three on it? I call them smart bombs. I read the crowd, If they’re not digging it. I’ll switch it up quick. Sometimes I don’t even play what I want to. It’s always good to bring back up, Like if the crowd is basic as fuck. Top three are: Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart The Cure - Just Like Heaven The Sisters Of Mercy - Alice What kind of music do you spin? Postpunk Darkwave Goth (All Things Dark) Synth New Wave Punk Rock

Has anyone ever come up to you asking you to play a song, and thrown up on you or near you? No, But they always bump the turntables and make the record skip, Sometimes to the next track, lol. I do have a vomit story though, One of my buddies threw up behind the DJ booth and walked away, Everyone that went behind there was slipping on his vomit and It smelled so gross. We had to wash it down with two tall cans of PBR So we know you DJ, but do you have any passions? A collection of anything? I collect vinyl, I’m at over 20,000 records & 80’s Movies with kick ass soundtracks

Morticia: Holy Shipwreck! You have quite the collection!

When are your next Dj gigs? This Monday (Monthly) @ Pike Bar (Long Beach) Every Wednesday @ TBK (Los Angeles) Every Thursday @ Rock It! (Pomona) This Friday (Monthly) @ The Offbeat (Highland Park) This Saturday @ Flyway (Pomona) Tell us about "The Breakfast Klub?" Going on our 15th year The Breakfast Klub every Wednesday night @ Cities - 4512 E. Cesar E. Chavez Ave. Los Angeles Ca. Morticia: I love OMD!!! People want to know; what do you love about djing? Is it being able to get people to dance? Or watching your superhuman Dj skills? Or did you make a deal with a wizard? Both, but what I love about DJ’ing the most is mixing on point. Not too many people do that or even care to learn anymore. When I first heard a DJ mix was when I was around 8 or 9 years old at a quinceañera, Did I spell that right? In Lynwood. I was amazed and wondered how the fuck did they match the beats together? I wanted to learn so bad. In 1992 I came up on my first DJ mixer during the LA riots, And bought a pair of turntables a year later. It took me about 6-8 months to learn how to beat match, and around 5 years to master it. I love what I do! Play music & Drink beer, Fuck Yeah!!! What more can I ask for? Last question; well sort of. Leave us with a quote: ‘K’
